Summary/Objective:
The Director of New Business Development is a senior role responsible for developing comprehensive market analyses and implementing successful opportunity identification and new product commercialization strategies. The focus of the role is to position for growth  and “New Segment in Existing Market” spaces within our Bromine Global Business Unit.  It is expected the Director will have a thorough understanding of the New Business Development and Commercialization processes and will effectively collaborate with the New Product Development Director and business lead functions within the GBU.  Candidate must have a proven track record of developing profitable new business and the experiences of managing staff and negotiating substantial contracts. This position reports to the Business Unit R&T Head and is in our headquarters in North Carolina.
 
Essential Functions:
Leads a team of professionals in the successful screening of new product ideas and development of detailed business cases for the most promising opportunities.  Ultimately this should drive more targeted R&D and significant new product launches. Administers the new product blueprinting program / process for the full Bromine GBU Leads efforts to identify commercial partners and negotiate joint development agreements (JDAs) for specific new product development efforts. Monitors external and internal environment for development of new market segments. Continually improves the GBU’s approach to new business development Develops and maintains new business development budget. Performs market research and analysis. Assists in developing marketing campaigns and launch strategies for new products and services. Leads screening of potential technology license agreements, joint development agreements, and co-lateral marketing agreements by analyzing market strategies, agreement requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities.  Leads negotiations to finalize agreements in area of responsibility. Identifies trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements; tracking individual contributors and their accomplishments. Develops and manages relationships with potential clients, influencers and key stakeholders and identifying opportunities to partner with third parties Has ownership of and responsibility for new product innovation in Bromine jointly with the New Product Development Director.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum B.S. degree in Engineering or Science
  • 10 years of commercial experience in marketing or product development, including successful track record in product commercialization.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent financial management skills

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, business or related field
  • Experience in new product Blueprinting / Voice of Customer
  • Experience negotiating joint development agreements and licensing
  • Working knowledge of intellectual property regimes and licensing
